Karun -

Transforming pollution into sustainable eyewear

Celion®, our pioneering material made from cigarette butts, is the main protagonist in this collaboration with Karün and in the launch of their new collection

It will be the world's first eyewear frames made from cellulose acetate recovered from this discarded material

For Karün, innovation is deeply rooted in harmony between humanity and nature. In its tireless search to create new products that protect the environment, this alliance with IMEKO was born, through our technology we managed to give a new purpose to cigarette butts.

¿The problem?

5.6 trillion

cigarette butts are discarded into the environment each year

1.3 million

tons is the total weight of cigarette butts discarded every year.

up to 50

liters of water are contaminated by just one cigarette butt.

¿The solution?

Recycled acetate:
the main component in cigarette butts (plastic) .

Our efficient, sustainable, and scalable mechanical-chemical process, removes the toxicity from the filters and recovers pure cellulose acetate as a new sustainable raw material, which is transformed into new sustainable raw material: Celion

We formed an alliance with Karün, who, like IMEKO, seek to generate solutions that allow people to connect with the care of nature.
